MORE ABOUT INTIMATE VISION
In my time at MassArt, we were given the opportunity to use sew-free Bemis technology, something currently being praised for its crisp and clean feel, and potential to save on traditional sewing waste. In practice, I'm not sure it was necessarily what it claimed to be. It's a technology that is still being developed and has some serious limitations. It cannot be shaped and eased the way most garments are traditional created as it has to be heat pressed flat, and it still often needs seam allowances even if they are cut off of the final garment. However, it was interesting to see into this side of the fashion industry and I took the opportunity to sample the material as a chance to envision a futuristic and more eco-friendly look at intimates combining both sleek silhouettes and an earthy color palette.
This look was patterned and cut from scratch just like regular garments, but no traditional sewing was used when putting it together. The nude spandex and stretch metallic mesh pieces were all finished with Bemis products, which fused the fabrics together when put through a heat press.
